Fall Festival 2023 - What is Your Share of $18.8 Million We Owe Waterbury?

On July 28, 2023, Waterbury won an $18.8 million judgment against Watertown for underpaid Water and Sewer fees from 2018-2023, accumulating at 18% interest.

Why didn’t you know about this?

  • Because all decisions were made by the Republican-controlled Town Council in secret meetings

  • Watertown residents and ratepayers were never notified.

The average ratepayer owes thousands of dollars.

Think you are not impacted because you are not a water and sewer customer?  Guess again.  You’ll be paying for all this:

  • Our public buildings and schools are water and sewer customers.

  • Some impacted businesses are gone.

  • You are paying the attorney fees.

  • The Town only has about half this money in reserve, so the rest may be bonded.

  • Everyone will likely be stuck with the $4.6 million in interest.

Now, the Town has decided to appeal the decision:

  • The appeal could take years.

  • If we lose, the amount owed could exceed $25 million.

On September 7, the Town held a public forum so“the public can...better understand the legal and practical implications of the…litigation.”

The Town was unable or unwilling to answer the questions posed at the forum.

The Republicans got us in this mess.  They don’t have the skills to get us out.

Do NOT vote for Republicans on November 7.  Vote Independent.
