Letter to the Editor: 05.15.2025

To the Editor,

Every year budget season brings letters critical of the Board of Education and the Superintendent (no matter who it is). Education is very expensive, as are the unfunded mandates that go along with it.

The BOE isn’t the problem, we are. Year after year we allow State and Federal unfunded mandates to cripple taxpayers. We complain, but we do nothing. And we are not the only Town, it is the same all over Connecticut.

We need a march on Hartford. The State has a surplus and should start funding mandates. Interested? Let’s talk about it at the Independent Party Community meeting at the Watertown Library on Saturday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m.

It’s time.
