Waterbury Republican-American

To the Editor:

Thank you for your May 31 editorial supporting Katherine Camara’s efforts to restore good government in Watertown. She is the newly elected Chairman of the Watertown-Oakville Independent Party and is continuing our party’s efforts to bring back the philosophy of “do it right with no hidden agenda” in Watertown.

It is ironic that, after winning the 2001 election, the Republican majority enhanced the public participation at Town Council meetings. I was a Republican Town Council member at the time. We not only added a second public participation agenda item at the end of the meeting, we participated in discussions. When a citizen had something to say, we responded, as appropriate. We wanted to engage with the public and encourage public conversations.

But times change, and the seeds of dissatisfaction with the Republican way led to the birth of the Independent Party in February 2008. The Independents have championed the principles of ethical, professional, honest government. With Katherine as our leader and the multitude of active supporters we have, we will continue to have a positive impact on the future of our Town.

Sincerely, Richard Wick

Founder & Past Chairman

Watertown-Oakville Independent Party
